Sleeping mushroom (Lentinus lepideus)

Description

Squamous squill belongs to the genus Neolentinus family Gleofillovye. This is a large mushroom with an upper part reaching 4–18 cm across. The cap is convex in young mushrooms. As it ripens, it straightens and becomes flat or slightly depressed.

The surface of the cap is painted white with a grayish or brownish tint. It is strewn with dark flakes. The pulp is distinguished by its hardness, pleasant, subtle aroma and fresh taste. It is white in color. In the area of ​​the cut may be reddish.

So, for example, squamous pylorifolia got the name sleeper mushroom due to the fact that it grows on railway sleepers. In scientific sources, it is called Neolentinus lepideus or Lentinus lepideus.

Propagation and Growth Time

A squamous pyloric leaf lives on dead conifers, most often on pines. The mushroom also grows on deadwood, stumps.

  • in the wells;
  • on various wood;
  • on the pillars.

The habitat of the species is a temperate climate in Europe. The massive fruiting period is in July - August. Individual copies can come across from April to October.

Use

Sleeping mushrooms are considered edible. Only hats of young specimens go to food . Mature pilovals are not suitable for consumption due to excessive rigidity and the accumulation of a large amount of harmful substances.

Important! For cooking, you need to collect only those mushrooms that grow on fallen trees. Growing on sleepers and other wood is not suitable for food, since these materials are processed by the substance creosote.

Cooking methods

Pylates are not suitable for cooking or frying. They can only be prepared by pickling or pickling. They need preliminary training. These mushrooms need to be washed well and soaked for 10-12 hours. Then they should be boiled in salted water for 20-25 minutes.

In Ukrainian and Russian cuisine, sleeping mushrooms are rarely prepared, only if there are no other, more valuable types. But among Koreans, Japanese and Chinese, this representative of the mushroom kingdom is well known and widespread. It is believed that with regular use it inhibits the development of tumors and helps strengthen the immune system.

Important! Due to the specific growth sites, the sleeper mushroom is almost impossible to confuse with other species. However, in appearance, the pilothorn is goblet-shaped and tiger-like. Thus, squamous pilovnik is not a very common edible mushroom. His taste is mediocre. It is suitable only for pickling and pickling and requires mandatory preliminary preparation.
