Siebold Varietal Nut

Ilananthus or as it is also called Siebold (Juglans sieboldiana Maxim) is listed in the Red Book of the Russian Federation as a wild plant. This tree belongs to the Nut family. In appearance, the fruit resembles a walnut.

Characterization and description of the variety

The variety was first bred in France in 1866 by the biologist Siebold, who was originally from Holland. The nut received its name in honor of its "parent". Walnut grows up to 20 m in height. The trunk of the tree is quite strong, its dimensions reach about 1 m in girth.

The life span of this plant is about 300 years. The crown of the nut is dense, the leaves have a dark green tint. The leaves are long, large. Leaves grow on a brown petiole. On one petiole, you can usually count from 9 to 21 leaves.

Females are located at the ends of branches, long and straight in shape, in one brush there can be up to 20 pieces. Male grows in leaf axils up to 5 pieces, the length is about 30 cm. It begins to bear fruit in the 6th year after planting.

Where is growing

It grows well in South Korea and southern Sakhalin. You can also meet in the forests of Japan, on the island of Kunashir. It is well established on fertile soils. It is a heat-loving plant, but also it can withstand temperatures up to -25 ° C.

Important! In spring frosts, the tree bark may be damaged, so it is recommended that you wrap the plant with agrofibre during the cold season.

Productivity

From one tree you can collect up to 2 thousand fruits. Nuts ripen closer to the end of August. In order for the crop to be higher, it is recommended to plant the plant on fertile soil, and also to apply fertilizers and minerals from time to time.

This plant is used for planting in parks. Its main feature is that it purifies the air of acetylene and gasoline vapors. For industrial purposes, also use wood. It is great for making furniture. Fruits, as well as leaves, can be used for medical purposes, for example, to prepare decoctions.

  2. Trunk cancer. Called by a lofiostomy fungus. In order to stop the reproduction of this disease, it is recommended to frequently inspect the plant, cut off and burn dried branches.

  3. Wood rot. To prevent this from happening, you should regularly weed the soil under the plant after watering. In summer, collect the entire crop from the tree, do not leave it to winter. If the tree is already affected by rot, it is advisable to completely remove it from the site, this will allow the disease not to progress.
