"Timol": description and indications for use

The most common problem when breeding bees is their mortality caused by a mite affliction with varroa. In the fight against it, the relatively new drug “Timol” shows high efficiency. How to properly dilute the working solution and when to carry out the processing, read below.

What is Timol?

The preparation in question is a fine crystalline white powder with a rather sharp spicy smell, burning to taste. The substance is poorly soluble in cold water.

It is perfectly dissolved in:

  • chloroform;
  • alcohol compounds;
  • ethers;
  • oil substances;
  • vinegar.

Did you know? In winter, the main task of the swarm is to heat the uterus. Bees gather around her in a ball and constantly move - inside the ball, the ambient temperature reaches + 28 ° С.

The substance is categorically incompatible with camphor, menthol, salol.

The origin of the drug is organic.

The main operating elements:

  • thyme extract;
  • methylphenol;
  • isopropyl.
The drug has pronounced acaricidal, fungicidal, nosemacidal and antiseptic properties. Effectively increases the immunity of insects due to the content of thyme in the air of volatile.

"Timol" is available in glass jars, as well as in ordinary plastic, hermetically sealed bags. Packing from 10 g to 2 kg.

Why use in beekeeping?

In beekeeping, the drug is used as an antibacterial and antiparasitic agent in the treatment and prevention of:

  • varroatosis;
  • ascoferosis;
  • acarapidosis;
  • nosematosis;
  • brood lesions of the brood.

Indications for use

The main indication for use is the defeat of parasitic organisms of honey bees.

Instructions for use "Timol"

Processing of beehives is carried out in the spring after the first flyby. Procedures are carried out 2 times with an interval of 1 week. 2.5 g of the substance goes to 10 small streets.

Autumn processing is also acceptable:

  • one week before honey collection;
  • right after him.

Regardless of the type of treatment, after the last manipulation, in the hive you need to lay out bags with the drug. Sachets must have holes. At this time, it is important that the air temperature in the hive does not fall below + 10 ° C, ideally it should vary between +20 ... + 27 ° C. After laying the bags, the hive cannot be opened for 48 hours, so as not to reduce the concentration of “Timol” in the air. Important! If the lesions of the disease are too significant (severe pestilence, deformation of individuals) - treatment is carried out three times at weekly intervals.

Use cases

"Timol" can be used in several variations:

  • in a solution with hot water or alcohol - 2.5-3 g of substance per 100 ml of liquid, then the mixture is placed in a special spray gun and applied to the upper frame, processing 2-3 times;
  • in the form of aromatic bags with a size of 10 × 10 cm - 2-3 bags are taken per 1 hive, they are left in the bee house for 10-12 days, the treatment is single, but lengthy;
  • in the form of a therapeutic sweet syrup - 3 g of substance are added to 100 ml of hot water, and then the resulting mass is mixed with 25 ml of syrup, dressing is carried out 4 times (100 ml per hive) with an interval of 3 days in spring;
  • in the form of therapeutic candi - 3 g of substance is added to 10 kg of candi, dosage - 40 g per frame, preventive feeding is carried out once, therapeutic feeding is carried out 4 times with an interval of 1 week only in spring;
  • in the form of steam supplied from a smoke gun — a single treatment in the spring after flying around and in the autumn after pumping out honey, 100 ml of the prepared solution per 1 beehive are placed in a liquid container.

Storage conditions

The drug can be stored in a glass container for 2 years from the date of release. If the powder was purchased in polyethylene, it is better to move it into a dry glassware for storage, be sure to hang a label on the container with the name and date of issue.

The drug should be stored in a dark, dry room, at a temperature not exceeding + 25 ° C.

Side effects

When used in recommended doses, side effects are not observed. Increasing the dosage can lead to poor bee productivity and increased mortality among families.

Important! A week before the honey is pumped out, all manipulations with Timol must be stopped, otherwise the quality of the products will obviously decrease.

Precautionary measures

When working with the drug, you must observe the following precautions:

  1. Wear protective gloves.
  2. Use a respirator and goggles.
  3. Wear a protective suit that protects the skin.

Do not allow the substance to enter the mucous membranes, skin and respiratory tract, otherwise severe irritation occurs.

"Timol" is an effective drug with antibacterial and acaricidal action. Has an organic origin, is environmentally friendly.
