How can I melt wax at home

Wax is the most valuable natural product presented to us by nature. Before using this substance in various areas of life, it must be melted and cleaned of various inclusions. We will figure out how to melt wax properly without using wax refining so that the product does not lose its beneficial properties.

Did you know? Due to the high cost of beeswax, modern scientists have invented soy and palm analogues - plant-friendly, environmentally friendly materials, much more affordable. Soy wax is extracted from soybean oil. Palm is obtained from the leaves of a special variety of palm trees growing in South America.

Substance features

Beeswax is a complex organic compound. Insects secrete it as a result of the work of special glands. Then the substance is distributed by the legs of the bees for the construction of honeycombs. Under favorable conditions - in warm weather - over a year these insects can produce up to 5-6 kg of fat-like material. This product has a unique composition. In total, more than fifty different chemical elements were found in its composition, including esters (up to 75%), saturated hydrocarbons (11-17%), free fatty acids (13-15%), water - up to 2.5%.

Due to this unique composition, this bee product is widely used in various fields:

  • in traditional medicine and folk medicine;
  • in pharmacology;
  • in cosmetology;
  • in decorative art;
  • in the production of candles;
  • in the production of household chemicals.

How to melt beeswax at home

There are many ways to make wax. We describe the most popular options that you can apply at home.

Important! A feature of this kindling method is high wax requirements. The source material should be free of mold and rotten areas.

Wax wax

Milling is a method of obtaining a pure product using water and high temperature. Before implementing this technology, clean the wax by keeping it for 2 days in room temperature water. Pop-up impurities periodically remove. The next step is to heat the bee product.

To this end, place the cleaned raw materials in an aluminum container with high sides, fill with distilled soft water and place on a low fire. After waiting for the kindling of raw materials, then keep the pan on fire for another half hour.

From excess impregnations, wax is filtered directly at the time of processing, that is, during kindling. Prepare a clean dish (preferably also from aluminum), dress it with several layers of gauze, gently pour the melted wax on top.

Maintain the mass in this state overnight. Excess liquid drains to the bottom of the pan, and the wax itself remains on the gauze. In the morning you only need to remove the hard film and transfer the clean product to a warm room for storage. This method saves in those situations when the wax darkened, and its quality began to deteriorate.

Important! Observe precautions - do not take the container with molten material without protective tacks. If this is your first time going to heat wax in a microwave, you can take out a cartridge every minute to check the degree of melting of the substance in it.

Using a can

The following technology is designed for small farms. You need to pick up high-quality and water-resistant material in advance. Grind it, then place it in a glass jar. The jar itself must be lowered into a pot of water and put on low heat. Do not leave the stove - you must constantly stir the contents of the can.

The melting point of the wax is in the range +60 ... + 70 ° C, so there is no need for the water to boil. As soon as complete softening occurs, transfer the composition to a clean container and transfer to a warm room.

In a water bath

Steam technology is indispensable for those who do not have special technical devices for kindling on the farm. You have the opportunity to melt an impressive amount of wax in a short time. So, pick up two pots of different diameters. Place the wax in the smaller one, and pour water in the larger one.

Did you know? For a long period in history, wax was a very expensive treat. Access to it had only the aristocracy and the Church.

Having lowered one vessel into another, put them on the lowest fire and wait for the wax to soften. Make sure that the water does not evaporate completely. As soon as the material melts, pour it into cans with lids or other containers available on the farm.

Using enameled tanks

For the next method, two enameled tanks with a volume of up to 20 liters are needed. Grind the washed raw materials by hand or with a grater. Put the raw materials in the first tank and cover with a layer of gauze. Fill the other tank half with distilled water and send to heat on fire. When the water boils, place the wax tank on the water tank.

Connect them with a rope. Top with high density material. Keep the tanks on fire for about 2 hours. Then turn off the stove, and leave the tanks as they are until morning. The next morning you can collect the finished wax cake from the lower tank.

In the microwave

Remove the raw materials from the packaging and place in a special cartridge. Place the wax cartridge in the microwave, slam the appliance door, and set the current microwave operating time. In order not to spoil the product, warm it no longer than 2-3 minutes.

How can melted wax be used?

There are many ways to use natural melted wax:

  1. Widely used for medical purposes. Wax is added to ointments that help with skin burning, inflammatory processes of the epidermis. And due to its nutritional properties, the product stimulates the positive effect of other therapeutic agents.

  4. As a shoe polish. Natural material properly cares for leather shoes.
  5. Used by Batik painting masters. Artists apply a greasy substance to areas that require pigment protection.
  6. Used to paint Easter eggs. With a thin brush, eggs are decorated with a melted product for the feast of the Resurrection of Christ.
  7. To protect tools. The natural product perfectly protects garden tools from corrosion.
  8. For wood processing. Before working with this material, lubricate it with wax - it will prevent cracking.
  9. As a furniture polish. The product acts as an excellent tool in the care of finished products from natural wood.
