After how many days, the rabbits get out of the nest

Rabbits are born completely helpless, but compensate for this problem by very rapid growth, surpassing in this the majority of cubs of other animals. And the conditions created in the nest by the rabbit play an important role here, which will be discussed later.

How many rabbits should be in the nest

Deaf, blind and naked 70-gram "pieces" of newborn flesh have only a sense of smell, which allows them to find the nipples of the mother. The rabbits that just came into the world are completely dependent on the care of the rabbit, who, before their birth, made a cozy nest out of grass and straw, lining it with her own fluff plucked from her chest and abdomen. This is where the little rabbits have to spend the initial period of their lives.

Important! The main criterion that determines the length of stay of rabbits in their mother’s nest is their degree of readiness for an independent life. Usually, small rabbits are no longer exposed to the side of the mother for more than three weeks, on average, from 16 to 21 days. During this time, their mass increases tenfold, and mother’s milk is already missing. A man comes here to help the rabbit, giving young rabbits the first lure in the form of grated carrots.

When they start to go out

The age at which the rabbits begin to climb out of the nest depends on the breed, the degree of readiness for an independent life, and even on the courage of a particular young individual. But in rabbits of any breed, normally these terms do not go beyond 16-21 days.

We recommend that you learn how to understand that the rabbits are ready for jailing.

After the first feeding (grated carrots), the rabbits begin to supplement the milk with crushed ones:

  • greens;
  • vegetables
  • grain
  • root crops.

When they go out in the winter

Rabbits, being cold-resistant animals, are able to bring offspring in the winter, when the outside temperature is below freezing. However, the nest should be in a well-insulated rabbitry during and after the winter rounding. In mild cold weather it can even not be heated, but drafts there should be absent for sure.

Did you know? If a domestic rabbit is able to live up to 12 years with proper care, then its wild fellow can hardly reach 1 year in nature.

Their mother rabbits successfully heat their naked rabbits with their heat, but if one of the rabbits somehow gets ahead of time from under the warm maternal side or is thrown out by the rabbit because of her lack of milk, this means a very quick death of the baby. During severe frosts, rabbit breeders are forced to resort to heating rabbitry. With its proper application, when the desired temperature is maintained automatically, the conditions for the exit of rabbits “out of the nest” practically do not differ from the warm season.

In the absence of additional heating, small rabbits can stay in the "nest" to the maximum, however, they almost never go beyond the three-week stay under mom's side, because they manage to acquire a warm fur coat and already receive good nutrition that provides them with energy.

Did you know? A rabbit weighing just a couple of kilograms is able to drink as much water as a dog weighing a dozen kilograms can cry out.

What to do if left early

Early leaving the “nest”, like any other deviation from the norm, signals the presence of some kind of problem.

Most often this is due to:

  • nutritional deficiency caused by any malfunctioning in rabbit lactation;
  • cramped nest caused by a large number of newborns rabbits (aggravated by the growth of individuals);
  • increased temperature in the nest, which is no less dangerous than hypothermia.

In such cases, the first step is to check the nutritional value of the rabbit, on which milk production directly depends. You should examine the udder and nipples of the rabbit for the detection of any pathology.

If there are more than 8 rabbits in the nest, then the weakest of them is simply not enough milk. In this case, these weak babies need to be removed from the mother and fed artificially using goat milk or special milk mixtures for kittens or puppies. Elevated temperatures and humidity are eliminated by ventilation, but without drafts.

Important! Rabbits need to be fed with milk or milk mixtures using a pipette or syringe without a needle.

If the rabbits do not go out for a long time

Experts believe that a delay in rabbits with exit from the mother liquor indicates some health problems associated with a delay in development or disturbances in the activity of the nervous system. In each case, it is necessary to understand separately.

According to the “scenario” worked out by hundreds of thousands of rabbit generations, the rabbits, being overwhelmingly beautiful mothers, create optimal conditions for their offspring to survive. But sometimes in this subtle process there is a need for human help.
